Golf tournament raises $7K for Ramona Valley Humane Society

The Ramona Valley Humane Society & SPCA raised about $7,000 at its Golfing for a Cause fundraiser held at Mt. Woodson Golf Course Aug. 20.

Proceeds from the event will be used to purchase property for a Humane Society shelter in Ramona, said Charlotte Jensen, the organization’s general manager, who added that the rescue animals are currently in foster care.

“It was a very nice tournament,” Jensen said. “We were very happy with the event. The day couldn’t have been more perfect.”

About 34 golfers turned out to play in the tournament held from noon to 4 p.m. The winning foursome team was Nicholas Desano of MJN Real Estate, who received a round of golf at Mt. Woodson and a bottle of wine. Tide Eldridge won the longest drive prize, but Jensen said nobody won the hole in one prize, which was a diamond bracelet donated by Jewelry World valued at $2,500.

In addition to raising money through golf fees and memorial sponsorships, the winner of the 50-50 drawing donated their share of the winnings back to the Humane Society, Jensen said. The total proceeds from the drawing were $280.

“This is the first annual event and we will see more golfers next year as we grow,” Jensen said.

Donations were also provided by local businesses that contributed opportunity baskets, including Fix Auto Central, which donated car care supplies, and Iron Pony Trading Post, which donated a gift certificate.

Donations are still being accepted by the Ramona Valley Humane Society & SPCA.

Hatfield Creek Vineyards and Winery and Correcaminos Vineyard also poured wine to guests.

Upcoming goals for the Humane Society include holding monthly meetings at Ramona Library when the meeting room opens and setting up a donation center for the Humane Society at a storefront in downtown Ramona.

Jensen said she is also planning to hold a Strutt Your Mutt fashion show fundraiser for dogs and their owners at a date still to be determined.
