CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – There are 1,875 veterans buried in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Gayle Black looks to commemorate each one with a wreath this December.

Black is the location coordinator for the Wreaths Across America organization, which began in partnership with the Worchester Wreath Company in 1992. The nationwide nonprofit organization has laid over 700,000 wreaths in all 50 states since 2014. Each bouquet of balsam represents 10 qualities that each veteran once embodied.

“When each wreath is placed by a gravestone, we try to acknowledge the sacrifices they made to keep our great nation free,” Black said in a release. “We are there to remember those who were not able to return to their families because of their ultimate sacrifice. We are there to honor those who have served this country. We are there to teach the next generation the value of freedom.”

Donations made to Black and the organization will support their efforts in purchasing wreaths for the ceremony, which takes place on Dec. 18 – National Wreaths Across America Day – at the cemetery.

Those interested in making a contribution may mail it to Resthaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery, PO Box 975 Clarksville, TN 37041. Checks should be made out to Sevier Station Society and, in the “for” line, add the code TN0021 to send it to the cemetery.

Resthave is located at 2930 Highway 41A South.
